Why Do Women Like Watching Male Beauty Bloggers?

There are a growing number of popular male beauty bloggers in China who mainly create content for a female audience. What is it about them that women find appealing? According to this article, the three main ways they tend to attract a following are makeup techniques, personal charm, and communication skills.

Many of their followers feel that since men don’t grow up using makeup, these male bloggers tend to be more objective about what products they use and how they use them, and that they tend to study the products and techniques more than many female bloggers do.

While I find this a bit sad, this article also found that many women fall into the comparison trap when watching female beauty bloggers and also are more critical of them, questioning their skills and qualifications.

Most of these male beauty KOLs are targeting a female audience, but the male beauty market is also developing, so maybe we will start seeing more KOLs for this segment. Chanel and Dior both have released male beauty collections this year. Facial cleanser, male face cream, male lip balm and male concealer are gaining popularity.

The article also pointed out that despite their success, many of these male beauty bloggers feel constrained as they are essentially limited to talking about beauty products, while female beauty bloggers can branch out to other feminine care products, clothing, hair products, accessories, etc.
